The Gallowgate Murders are a 5 piece Celtic Punk group formed in Edinburgh in 2019.
The band was started by Anna and Tom who met at a live show at the legendary Bannermans venue and plotted to combine their songwriting forces in an oath to fill the void of the underground Scottish scene. They were shortly joined by fellow musicians hanging out at the same pub and recorded their debut single “Wreckhead Wedding” just a few months later.
In 2020, The Gallowgate Murders toured the UK as a main support act for metal folk giants Skiltron, followed by a successful UK-wide tour with The Rumjacks from Australia. Despite being a newly emerged support band, The Gallowgate Murders packed every venue to the brim, including The Underworld in Camden Town, Corporation in Sheffield, Audio in Glasgow as well as Krakatoa in Aberdeen to mention just a few.
In September 2021, the band played their first post-pandemic headline show at Bannermans Bar in Edinburgh, which was a sold out event. Their wild, energetic act quickly gained them the attention of US-based bands, such as Brave The Sea, or European ones such as Mr Irish Bastard, which buddied up for mutual shows across Scotland.
In July 2022 The Gallowgate Murders released their debut EP titled “Dead, Gone and Living On”, voted number 4 in “Top 10 Celtic Punk EP Releases of 2022”. The incredible response from fans and media alike resulted in an invitation to play the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later that Summer and landed the band prime slots at the Punk on the Peninsula Festival two years in a row.
“Dead, Gone and Living On” released via Widdershins Productions is available across all streaming platforms with phenomenal results on Spotify’s editorial playlist (“Celtic Punk”).
The official video to the debut single “Wreck Head Wedding”, live video of “Scáthach” and “Only The Bastards” are all available on YouTube, with "Cry Rosie" premiering on the 11/11/2024.
The Gallowgate Murders performed at two biggest rock & metal festivals in the UK in the Summer 2024: the Takeover at Download Festival in June as well as the Bloodstock Open Air in August.
